Meet the Trainer
John Van Olden – Owner
John Van Olden has been working with dogs his entire professional life. His first job, at age 14, was working with a local dog groomer, and while being far from easy, it was a job he kept through High School. He had an 8-year military career as a Military Police Dog Handler and Trainer (of course!). After the military, while still attending college, John started his first business, Golden State K-9 Training in the San Francisco Bay Area. His clients included veterinarians, professional athletes, other high-profile clients, and increasingly, the former clients of other dog trainers.
John soon realized that he had developed a training and business system superior to the majority of what was currently being offered. This led him to form K9 Advantage (“Where Dogs Send Their People For Training”), the first dog training franchise in the United States. Through that experience John came in contact with hundreds of people who were investigating how to get into the dog training business so they could turn their passion for dogs into a career. During this time, he visited several schools for dog trainers across the United States and met with the operators of several others to learn about their programs and approaches.

LIMA
LIMA, or Least Intrusive, Minimally Aversive, dog training is a training strategy that includes effective, humane tactics most likely to achieve a training objective or behavioral change.
Reward-Based
Del Dog uses reward-based training methods to achieve training goals. This method is essentially a combination of positive reinforcement and balanced methods. It has been successful for over 35 years!
Real World
When we work with your dog, we work inside of the home, AND outside of the home in public settings. It’s so important to practice your training in situations filled with distractions and potential triggers, when you dog is ready to handle it!
Puppies
Our puppy training program is perfect for pup’s 7 weeks old and older. We will work on the following skills: leash walking, crate training, basic commands, potty training, puppy socialization, and more.
Aggressive Dogs
Our trainer can solve all forms of aggression such as human, dog, resource guarding, territorial, sibling, food, and more. Don’t let aggression take over your life, we can correct it!
Separation Anxiety
Do you have dog who gets anxious and stressed when crated, or when you leave the house? Separation anxiety is very complex, but very correctable with the right training methods.
Behavioral Modification & Basic Obedience Training
If you decide to sign up for our one-on-one training sessions, we will always start with a 2 hour behavior consultation so we can meet you and your dog and go over a training plan. From there we will start with the basics and gradually introduce your dog to more advanced training. Our main goal is to teach you everything you need to know so you can confidently handle your dog when we aren’t there.
Dog Training is hard work, but it will be well worth it when you have a well behaved dog you can take anywhere without worry!
